| Review by Graham
Endeacott. It was twenty
years ago today... a bit of a pun I know but
it has been twenty years since the first edition of The
Ford That Beat Ferrari first graced our bookshelves.
Has it been worth the wait? The answer
has to be a resounding YES! It's bigger and it's better.
This hardback edition has 480 pages and over 800
photographs. I'll take the publishers word for the number of
photographs but if anyone fancies counting them!
Although a large number of the
photographs feature in the first edition, don't let that put
you off buying this edition, it bears little resemblance to
the earlier book and really is a complete remake. There is
more text and the photographs themselves feature more
detailed captions. A few little mysteries have been solved
but you'll need to read the book for yourself to find out
more. |
This book isn't cheap at £75
but, there are two more expensive versions.
Two limited editions
are available. The first is a limited edition of 200
copies. This will be leather-bound, in a slip case and will
be signed by John and Gordon and also by the writer of the
foreword, Jacky Ickx. Priced at £200, this is sure to be a
collectors item.
The second limited edition, The Owners
Edition, is for owners of genuine cars and is similar to the
first limited edition in that it is autographed by John,
Gordon and Jacky. The book itself is of a higher quality and
will feature a cover-mounted chassis plate. This edition
is priced at £400. Owners must apply for their copy
before 31st December 2005. Any copies not sold by this date
will be released for general sale.
